The Scene as Seen at SuperTech 2014

So, here’s the mission: Administer a 20-question computer test on service information to the best truck technicians in the country. Judge them, score the test and determine the winner… who might just go on to be named the number one truck technician in the United States.

That was the scene at the Information Service station at the TMC 2014 SuperTech National Technician Skills Competition held Sept 22-24 at the Walt Disney Swan & Dolphin Resort in Orlando. And as one of Mitchell 1’s representatives at the event, I had a hand in fulfilling the mission described above. Every year Mitchell 1 is proud to administer the exam for the Information Service station with questions based on our Tractor-Trailer.net  and RepairConnect.net software.

This year, the competition consisted of 16 groups of seven technicians proceeding through 15 different test stations. Each technician had 23 minutes to complete the test. After all tests were completed and scored, Mark McLean of FedEx Freight placed first for our station with an impressive score of 96 percent. He also scored highest for two other stations, won the team competition with a colleague, and went on to be named Grand Champion of the entire competition for the second year in a row. In a word, WOW!

It was truly an honor to be in a room for one day with 112 of the nation’s best truck technicians and to watch them use our products and hear their feedback. These techs are all winners in my opinion. They work for some of the biggest companies that move the products that make our lives easier. Collectively and individually, they have an impressive amount of talent and knowledge. Congratulations to all contestants!
