CARFAXPOWAY, CA (Nov. 12, 2005) Mitchell 1 has begun development of its next generation of shop management productivity software which will include automatic VIN decoding. Powered by Carfax; VIN decoding will become an integral part of Mitchell shop management suite. VIN decoding will save shops time and money by better identifying each vehicle; critical when ordering parts.

Repair shops will be able to enjoy the speed and accuracy of VIN bar code scanning. Many parts ordering and lookup are all based on the VIN. Getting the VIN copied onto paper and then keyed into the software correctly is very difficult. By scanning the bar code, accuracy is assured the first time, and completion of the new customer data becomes faster and easier. Using a wireless scanner, users could go to a car on the lot, Scan a car’s VIN and transmit the information to the computer as keyed data, the management system with then automatically decode the VIN filling in the correct Year, Make, Model and other information.

About Carfax: Founded in 1986, Carfax pioneered the concept of the vehicle history report, today Carfax has the most comprehensive database of vehicle VIN information ever assembled which includes Year, Make, Model, Engine/Drive train and more. Carfax is also able to confirm a clean title history or help purchasers identify previous salvage history, odometer fraud, flood damage and more. Carfax, Inc., based in Fairfax, Virginia, is a wholly owned subsidiary of the R.L. Polk & Co.
