Electrical issues be a challenge at times, even on a relatively simple system. When you introduce control modules into the mix it can get even more complicated. SureTrack community member tchrono had a Nissan Frontier pickup in the shop with power windows that didn’t work. After testing on their own they were stumped. They posed the question to the community, and with the help of fellow community member DAG1365 and others, they were able to resolve the issue quickly.

The following Community Fix summarizes the interaction between members of the community that led to the solution.

Vehicle
2004 Nissan Frontier 3.3L

Title
Power windows inoperative, replaced smart entrance control unit (SECU).

Complaint
Customer states that power windows do not work.

Diagnostic Steps Performed/Parts Replaced
Confirmed customer complaint. No power to either window motor. Has ground. Has power going into the relay (white/red) wire. If we give the white wire coming out of the relay power, the windows work. If we hit the window switch while checking the white wire that comes out of the relay, that wire turns to ground. That should shoot out power? We tried a new relay and still the same issue.

Best Answer from Community Member DAG1365
White wire receives power when relay is triggered. The green and white wires receive voltage from smart entrance control unit (SECU). The SECU sends power out. SECU control module receives power from fuse 28 (7.5amp) in dash fuse box left side. It gets to ground from one on (A) pillar drivers side m14, and right passenger (A) pillar m68. Would see if can connect into system SECU for any data/codes. With switch on does relay have 2 powers? Is relay being triggered, power from SECU? If not, does SECU have all its powers (#5 & #28 fuses left inside fuse box)/grounds?

Cause
Tried to get codes from BCM and SECU, but it says it cannot communicate with those modules. It has some codes in ECM, but they are for speed sensor and crank sensor. Upon further testing suggested in replies we found that SECU is the problem.

Correction
Replaced SECU with a used one. Did not have to reprogram anything. Windows work great. Thanks for all the help.
