Mitchell 1 Assesses Service Information Skills Among Top Technicians at the Arkansas Trucking Association’s Return of Champions Event

Mitchell 1 joined the Arkansas Trucking Association in their return to an in-person trucking championship that brought together 108 of the best drivers and 50 of the top technicians in the state.  Mitchell 1 operated the Service Information Skills station at ATA Return of Champions event, held June 23-25 in Rodgers, AR, which  tests competitors on their abilities to use online repair information to diagnose and fix maintenance problems they’re  likely to encounter in their jobs.

“Mitchell 1’s online programs make technicians more proficient, because all the information they need to correctly diagnose and fix any truck is instantly available,” commented Kristy LaPage, business manager for Mitchell 1’s commercial vehicle group who worked the service information station in Arkansas.

“Skilled technicians are a critical element to keeping fleets operating efficiently and freight moving and are a scarce resource for our industry,” she continued. “It’s important to recognize their hard work and dedication through these competitions.  It’s really a pleasure to be part of them.”

During the event, drivers tested their skills in a pre-trip inspection competition, written exam and hands-on obstacle course at 14 stations. At the Mitchell 1 Service Information station,  Jesse Elmore of Doggett Freightliner came in first place and was also crowned the Truck Technician Grand Champion. Elmore, a Van Buren, Ark. resident, took home trophies in four stations.

Mitchell 1 joined the national and state technician skills competitions at their inception more than 16 years ago as one of the first to introduce online service information programs to the competitors.  They were an early sponsor as Arkansas built their state competition into one of the premier events testing and recognizing local technicians.

In addition to taking part in the Arkansas competition, Mitchell 1 has also supported state technician skills competitions in Tennessee, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Maryland with an online testing program they have developed.  Mitchell 1 also administers the Service Information Skills station during TMC’s annual SuperTech event.

TruckSeries, Mitchell 1’s suite of complete software solutions for the trucking industry, provides integrated access to labor estimating, diagnostic trouble code procedures and repair information for medium- and heavy-duty trucks in a single application.
