Title
Clicking sound coming from under truck when slowing down.
Complaint
There is a clicking sound—similar to a playing card in bike spokes—when I release the gas and coast to a stop with the truck still in gear. This noise occurs only when I’m driving at speeds between 24 and 17 mph. However, if I shift into neutral while the noise is happening, the clicking stops.
Cause
Checked all u-joints thoroughly, replaced front c/v shafts along with the inner shafts in the front end. Inspected all the wheel bearings and they feel tight. However, I’m still hearing a clicking sound that I can’t pinpoint.
What is causing the clicking sound?
Correction
Replaced the VVT solenoid under the intake manifold, and the noise went away.
