Throwback Thursday – My First Car

Do you remember your first car?  How about the first car that you had to pay for yourself? Maybe they were one and the same.

I remember my first ride: a 1974 Ford Mustang II Ghia — Red! — with a 4-speed standard transmission. Ok, I’ll give you a moment to stop laughing. I was a senior in high school. And boy, I sure thought I was the stuff! But at least I had a car. I had places to go.

As I searched for a picture for today’s Throwback Thursday post, I ran across this bit o’ trivia: “My car” won Motor Trend’s 1974 “Car of the Year” award,  the only Mustang to achieve that honor until 1994! See… I told you I was the stuff!!

It was in really good condition and I think dad paid $800 for it. Such a sweet deal! That thing was like a tank! It got me everywhere I needed to go, even across the country (and back again) after I graduated from high school. And all with very little trouble — so reliable! Did I mention I loved that car?

Later, when I got married and was expecting my first child, I needed a vehicle that was a little more user friendly for a new mom. I needed four doors, power locks and windows and A/C that worked. I needed efficiency and convenience — an upgrade, if you will. I had to pay for this one myself, but it was well worth the monthly payment for all the amenities this new gem provided me.

Here at Mitchell1, we’re always looking for more ways to be user friendly. And kind of like the transition I made from the reliable old red tank to my comfortable, efficient mom mobile, Mitchell 1 is moving forward, too. We’ve gone from OnDemand5, the cutting-edge technology in its day, to ProDemand, a souped-up and more efficient version of this trusted source for repair information. An upgrade — everything you need, all in one place!

In the spirit of Throwback Thursday, go ahead and be a little nostalgic. Tell us about your first car – what Y/M/M was it, and what did you love or hate most about it? You can leave your comment below.
