Throwback Thursday: Dad’s Old Chevy

Throwback Thursday: Dad’s Old Chevy

I was too short to see over the fender of my dad’s 1970 Chevy ¾ ton pickup, but I can see it in my mind as if it was yesterday.  White with the Chevy emblem reverse painted in the back window.  Dad’s sitting on the opposite fender, feet in the engine compartment, working away.  I climb up and stand on the tire so I can see.

Me: “Whatcha doin’?”

Dad: “I’m fixin’ the truck.”

Me:  “Can I help?”

Dad: “You sure can, Bud.”

You see, I was my father’s only “son” and I was always into whatever he was doing. I wanted to sit up there like he was, but he was afraid I’d fall in.

Remember when you could actually sit “in” the engine compartment to make the repairs? Nowadays you’re hard pressed to fit your arm in to get at the doggone bolt that needs to be removed.

And the printed manual would lay open on the driveway next to dad’s toolbox … just one single book, mind you, not three or more volumes filled with computer gadgets, electronics and whatnots.

I miss that old Chevy, the simple repairs and getting to ride seated next to Dad. But just as I’ve grown up and moved on, so has technology.  That’s why we at Mitchell 1 strive to keep up with the changes of the industry and get you the information you need to make those fixes as fast as possible.

Plus, you’ve got better things to do with your time – like take a Sunday drive!
