Meet the Mitchell 1 Team: Oscar Babers

At Mitchell 1, we like to take the time to recognize our team. We have many auto repair experts here who have at one point or another been on the front lines of the automotive repair industry and who know the ins and outs of the product itself. These professionals are not only passionate about the automotive industry, but they are also excited about being able to pass on small nuggets of wisdom about automotive repair that can make life around the shop a little easier.

This week we met up with Oscar Babers, senior editor in the editorial department. Oscar is responsible for providing content for Jaguar, Land Rover, Porsche, Audi and Volkswagen and also helps out with the hiring process for the editorial department. With a passion for cars, he has been involved in the car scene and worked on his own vehicles for many years. Let’s take a look at his favorite thing about Mitchell 1 and what is on the horizon for ProDemand.

1.) As a hiring manager, what do you look for in your team members?

In the interviewing process we are looking for people who obviously have thorough experience in the automotive industry, usually service writers and technicians but not limited to those roles. They need to be able to identify parts, components and procedures. Outside of that, and with so much information to work with, it is highly important that our team members have great attention to detail, so they can quickly find any mistakes in articles. Another skill on our radar is good communication. Even though the job at hand is a very quiet, individual job by nature, we highly value people with great communication skills who are willing to be proactive, ask questions and contribute to improving our process.

2.) What is your favorite thing about working for Mitchell 1?

When I hear people do these types of interviews, I always hear the same answer. I hate to sound cliché, but it really is the people that make my time here great. We see each other every day and sometimes even more than my own family. So my coworkers have become almost like a second family. Everyone is positive, fun and easy to work with, really a true family atmosphere.

3.) Is there something at Mitchell 1 you look forward to?

Besides payday and donuts on Fridays — ha ha? I actually look forward to helping people. I am definitely a people person. When people come to me with issues, whether professional or personal, it’s very satisfying to either be able to resolve that issue or be there for comfort or advice.

4.) What challenges does your group face, and how do you manage that?

Data has just exploded. Cars are just way more complicated than they were before, so the information is growing exponentially every year. After running some numbers, we found we used to do 1.5 million pages per year, and now we are doing 2.5 million. It has become a challenge to have enough man power to be able to produce the data that we want to produce. This is why we are constantly expanding, and growth is a great thing.

5.) Anything you would like to share about the ProDemand automotive repair information software?

Because we work with the data, we are privy to a lot of the developments with the product. Although I cannot disclose specifics, I will say that we are really excited to bring these new ProDemand enhancements to our customers. We can already see how our customers will find tremendous value in the user experience and the increased accessibility of information, but you will have to wait to see for yourself!
