Did You Survive ‘Mobilegeddon’ – Google’s New Search Ranking?
Have you been hearing all the hype about Google “Mobilegeddon”? It’s all over the news and social media. On April 21, Google introduced a new algorithm that favors searches to businesses that have mobile-optimized websites. Businesses with websites that are not yet mobile-friendly get punished in terms of lower search rankings.
The new algorithm certainly throws a wrench into search engine optimization for sites that are not mobile friendly. How do you know if your site is mobile friendly? A quick glance at the site on a smartphone (this update only affects phones, not tablets) can tell you a lot. Can you zoom, swipe and pinch, and does it have larger navigation buttons and links that are sized to be “finger friendly?” This can give you some good clues, but to definitively know your site’s mobile friendliness is a far more scientific process.
