What’s Ahead for Digital Marketing in 2015?

It’s that time again — time to make predictions for the New Year. The world of digital marketing and social media moves really fast, so as 2014 transitions into 2015, we can expect that what was hot in 2014 will either heat up or cool down in 2015, or be replaced by something new and different. Things most definitely will not remain static.

Lee Odden, CEO of TopRank Online Marketing asked 21 of the leading experts in social media for their thoughts about trends for 2015. Among others, he included folks like Ann Handley, chief content officer, MarketingProfs; Jay Baer, president, Convince & Convert; Mike Stelzner, CEO, Social Media Examiner; and Joe Pulizzi, founder, Content Marketing Institute. Here are a few nuggets they shared:

  • We’ll focus on more relevance and new inspirations (rather than just the tried and true).
  • It’s already happening, but 2015 will be the year of paid amplification.
  • By the end of 2015, wearable technology should be gathering enough steam that we will begin to see some early marketing applications.
  • The major change for 2015 is NOT about digital marketing. The major change will come from marketers by going back to basics.
  • 2015 will be the year of HUMAN for digital marketers.
  • Marketers will become obsessive about becoming relevant to their audiences.
  • Mark 2015 as the year of humor in digital marketing.
